Church of Santa Margherita
|
ChurchAfter taking some time out to learn Zbrush I decided to start this project again from the ground up. It's based off of Santa Margherita Church in Vernazza, Italy. Here are a couple stills of what I have so far. The basic geometry was done in Maya. I plan to do some sculpting in Zbrush, and texturing with Substance Designer and Substance Painter. I'll be sure to post updates as soon as I can. The sketchfab preview at the bottom of this page is of the old version of the church to use for comparison.
Update:
I've added more detail, unwrapped the UV's and smoothed whatever needed smoothing. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to sculpt finer detail before I bake the normal map, add detail in Substance Painter after the map is baked, or both. Final Update:
I'm finally ready to call this done. What I decided to do with the high-poly detail was to sculpt it by adjusting the height and normal maps in Substance Painter. It just made sense to do it this way considering much of the height would be generated by the textures used in Substance Painter anyway. I made the roof tiles in Substance Designer. Originally, I had crafted the tiles so that I could switch them to tile in a circular pattern for the cone section of the roof. The switch worked, but unfortunately I had issues getting the tiles to fit correctly in UV space. My solution was to ditch the switch, and have overlapping UVs for just one section of the cone, then cover the seams with strips of tile. Overall I'm much happier with this version of the church compared to the original at the bottom of this page. This project taught me so much about working with height and normal maps, and I'm excited to apply what I learned to future projects. On to the next! |
